Kesi Dragon Chair Cover, China, 19th century, woven with a pair of side-facing dragons chasing pearls on a blue ground, surrounded by auspicious symbols, bordered at each end by lishui stripes, 56 1/2 x 18 1/4 in.
Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Marshall Hertig, an internationally noted medical entomologist who conducted research on disease bearing insects at the Peking Union Medical College, from 1923-1928, his wife Edwina Smiley Hertig, and their son Bruce Allerton Hertig, to the present owner.
