Walking Figure, 1920, edition of 40. Signed and dated "Fortuna Brulez-Mavromati 920-" in pencil l.r., numbered "8/40" in pencil l.l. Woodcut on fine Japan paper, image size 11 3/8 x 7 7/8 in. (28.7 x 19.9 cm),unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Glued to a backing mat along upper edge of verso, subtle staining from ink.
N.B. Fortuna Brulez-Mavromati was born 1893 in Galatz, Romania, and died 1989 in Berlin. She lived in Germany most of her life, mainly Hamburg were she met her husband Brulez (of Flemish origin) who was a teacher in French and philosophy in Hamburg. We would like to thank Franz Engelmann for kindly providing this biographical informaion.
