Smith & Wesson Model Number 1 Second Issue Revolver and Holster Identified to Corporal Samuel H. Grimwood, Company E, 5th Rhode Island Volunteer Infantry, c. 1861, .22 caliber, serial number 19428, rosewood grips, silver-plated brass frame engraved on the backstrap "Corp. Saml. H. Grimwood Co E. 5th Reg. R.I.V.," blued cylinder and barrel, nine rounds of ammunition, a leather holster, and a small tintype image, barrel lg. 3 3/16 in.

Note: Corporal Grimwood was mustered into service on September 15, 1861. He participated in Burnside's expedition to Hatteras, Battle of Roanoke Island, Currituck Sound, New Berne, Havelock Station, Carolina City, to Fort Macon. He died at Fort Macon of typhoid fever on May 22, 1862.
