Jacobean-style Carved Oak Settee, probably England, late 19th/early 20th century, shaped back carved with images of "Green Men" and musicians, two panels with coats of arms flanked by a panel depicting a dancing bear and one depicting musicians, a carved motto "East or West 1684 Hame S Best," armrests with lion's heads, two hinged seats above panels with geometric decoration, brass plate inscribed "In Memory of Susan Minturn Tuckerman 1866-1956 Mayflower descendant of John Howland. Donated by Dorothy Draper and Roger Tuckerman," ht. 60, seat ht. 19 1/2, wd. 55 1/2, dp. 30 1/2 in.
Note: Dorothy (nee Tuckerman) Draper (1889-1969) was an important interior designer known for her "Baroque Modern" aesthetic. Roger Tuckerman was her brother.
