Signed and indistinctly dated "F.W. Benson '2..." l.l., identified on labels from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Fogg Art Museum encapsulated on the new frame backing.
Watercolor on paper, 14 1/2 x 20 5/8 in. (36.8 x 52.3 cm),framed.
Condition: Mat burn, toning and a brown paper tape remnant to the reverse.
Provenance: A private Massachusetts collection.
Estimate $10,000-15,000
Hinged to the window mat in two places along the top edge of the reverse.
Framed dimensions are 23 3/4 x 29 inches.
Temporary loan label from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts indicates that the watercolor was included with a number of watercolors and oil paintings which were at the MFA from June 10 until October 14, 1941, apparently for storage and not exhibition.
Temporary loan label from the Fogg Art Museum indicate the watercolor was at the museum June 9, 1926-November 11, 1926 and again
July 7, 1928-October 3, 1928, apparently for storage.
