Arthur Clifton Goodwin (American, 1866-1929)
Two Men Beaching a Fishing Boat. Signed and inscribed faintly "A.C. Goodwin/...Bos..." l.l., numbered "G213" in black on the reverse, identified on an unattributed inventory label affixed to the stretcher, numbered "F30B" in white chalk in two places on the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 24 x 30 in., unframed. Condition: Tacking edges weakened, torn, or missing, stretcher bar marks, rippling, surface grime.
Provenance: Estate of the artist, to a private collection, to the current owner.
N.B. This composition may be inspired by the paintings of coastal fishing boats by the Spanish Impressionist JoaquĆn Sorolla y Bastida (1863-1923).
