Description:

Fall of Manila Sword and Scabbard, c. 19th century, brass hilt with "H.G. MARTIN./MANILA P.I./AUG.13, 1898" on one side of the grip, and "MAY, 1, 1898 KV." on the other, clipped point blade, and a leather scabbard with a brass throat and tip, blade lg. 15 1/2, overall lg. 21 in.

Note: May 1, 1898, was the date of the first battle between American and Spanish forces at Manila Bay, and on August 13, 1898, Manila fell to American forces.

Hilt has some patination, blade has scattered pitting, staining, and patina, and the scabbard has some wear but in good condition.
