Smith Carbine, c. 1861-65, .50 caliber, serial number 1079, walnut stock with two crisp cartouche marks on the left side, receiver marked on the left side "MANUFACTURED BY/AM'N M' CH'N WKS/SPRINGFIELD MASS," "ADDRESS/POULTNEY & TRIMBLE/BALTIMORE. U.S.A.," and "SMITH'S PATENT/JUNE 23 1857," octagonal to round barrel marked on the left side "L.F.R.," barrel lg. 21 5/8, overall lg. 39 1/4 in.

Stock is in excellent condition with a few minor dings and dents, receiver retains most of its color case hardening and the barrel retains most of its original blue, overall in very good condition.
