Oil on canvas, 45 3/4 x 37 1/2 in. (116.2 x 95.2 cm),in a carved Florentine frame.
Condition: Tears, multiple patch reinforcements, small punctures, paint losses, craquelure, surface grime.

Seven-inch diagonal tear with canvas loss to background in u.l. quadrant; three-sided tear measuring 4 inches high, 3 inches across at top and 2 inches across at bottom, with canvas loss, located c.l. edge in the stack of books; T-shaped tear through the figure's chin and neck measuring 5 inches across and three inches down.
