Gurley Vernier Transit Compass with Curvilinear Standards, c. 1860s, 6 1/2-in. engraved silvered dial marked with maker's name and town and fleur-de-lis representing north, vernier scale with fine adjustment knob, single spirit level mounted to underside, "A"-frame supports with 10 1/2-in. scope, housed in its original mahogany case with interior label, one reading "R.G. Kimball/Nov. 24."
