Seashell-inlaid and Lacquered Covered Box, Japan, Meiji period, Ryukyuan-style round box decorated with a landscape on the cover top, three floral sprays to the box base, roses to the interiors, respectively, mark on base, ht. 1 3/8, dia. 4 1/4 in.
Provenance: Sold by H. Nishimura's Lacquer Factory, Kyoto, to Mrs. Verne Fryklund in 1960, with receipt.
minor wear particularly along the rims, spotty age cracks to lacquer, unevenness to cover top lacquer with some carving flaws or traces of repair, some inlay losses.
