Gilt and Green-painted Serpent Odd Fellows Staff, America, 19th century, the gilt serpent with red-painted mouth and wire tongue wrapped around a green-painted tapering staff with gilt top, lg. 67 1/4 in.

Provenance: Collected from an Odd Fellows lodge in Illinois.

Serpent's head is reattached where it meets the pole; the pole has scattered scratches and associated paint loss; wear at the base and paint loss likely associated with an old stand.
