Yellow-painted Box with Lion-decorated Lid, America, late 19th century, the rectangular 19th century box lid with a depiction of a lion in chains and green lawn, the painted decoration later, likely 20th century, the interior lined in wallpaper, ht. 3 1/2, wd. 18 1/2, dp. 12 in.
Note: The image of the lion in the lid is apparently copied from the Goodwin Tavern, Hartford, Connecticut, originally painted by William Rice.
