Portrait Head of Woman in a White Cap and Ruff
Unsigned, inscribed indistinctly on the reverse.
Oil on panel, 15 x 10 1/2 in. (38.1 x 26.5 cm),framed.
Condition: Stabilized vertical cracks and curvature to panel, flaking/losses along cracks, surface grime, old retouch, craquelure.
Provenance: Purchased by the uncle of the consignor in the 1920s, probably in Germany; by family descent to the current owner.

With a label from Konrad Zimmerman, Berlin, on the back of the frame.
Framed dimensions are 24 3/4 x 20 1/2 in.
Curvature to the panel of about 1/8 inch at the highest point in the middle. Panel with two vertical cracks at the right side, both with obvious breaks to surface of the paint for 8 inches down from the top and probably extending all the way to the bottom of the panel. Cracks stabilized with canvas applied to the reverse of the panel along the entire left edge. Craquelure with areas of tenting and with losses in an area measuring about 2 x 1 inches overall located center right. Fine craquelure overall, varnish discoloration. Areas of possible skinning to the background.
