The Imperial edition, copy number 21 of 100 printed for Mrs. Mary Root McAlpine of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; ten folio volumes bound Japanese-style, in silk brocade over boards, with silk knotwork tied and tasseled sewing supports, each volume bound in silk of a different color, lavishly illustrated throughout, with sixty matted hand-colored albumen photographs, 200 smaller hand-colored albumen text illustrations, ten color collotype photographs of flowers by Ogawa, each volume with a matted or mounted frontispiece showing examples of Japanese art (cut velvet painting, painting on silk, watercolor),and numerous other full-page color plates throughout reproducing notable works of Japanese art; some abrading to some bindings, otherwise generally good, 15 x 12 in.
