William J. Young Surveyor's Compass, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, c. 1830-40, lacquered brass instrument with 6-in. dia. brass dial marked "W.J. Young/Maker/Philadelphia/Patent," blued-steel needle with needle lifter on underside, outkeeper, circular level, sighting vanes, and tripod mount, housed in its original red-washed fitted case.
