"1914: A Historic Vintage. In the autumn of 1914 the grapes in the Grande Champagne vineyards promised extraordinary quality, but the Great War was on and the wine rowers (the men) were at the front. The women took the challenge- harvesting and making the wine, and mastered the art of distillation. Close to half a century of aging in wood, it was transferred to demijohns and kept under seal until it was finally bottled in 1987. Recreating a Hine family treasure, Baccarat devoted untold weeks and the talents of its most gifted craftsmen to recreating this hand-etched decanter, adding a silver band and numbering each decanter 1 through 200. Made of Macasser ebony and Honduran mahogany with accented violet wood, each case was individually crafted by hand and individually numbered."
