Gandharan Gray Schist Bodhisattva Head, Kushan period, possibly 2nd/3rd century, well carved with full lips, heavy lidded eyes with finely arched brows with a raised urna, the elaborately carved hair tied and held together by a triple row beaded ushnisha, the stone of a highly polished gray schist, ht. 9 in.
Provenance: Purchased in Karachi in the 1960s by an Edward Durell Stone architect, then by descent to the present owner.
