Condition: Lined, craquelure, minor surface grime.

Provenance: The estate of Richard Mellon Scaife, Pennsylvania. The proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit a Pennsylvania art institution.

Framed dimensions are 46 x 37 1/4 in.

There is a second unattributed label on the frame, with the upper left corner torn away, which also provides the size, title, and artist, and seems to be of a similar vintage to the Met label, although the type face is different from the Met label. Both of the labels seem to have been detached from an earlier pressed paperboard backing and re-mounted directly on the back of the frame.

The lining was adhered with glue or resin. Stable craquelure, more visible in the blue sky in raking light. Some broadly brushed retouch to the sky.
