World War I "Public Warning" Poster, Sir Joseph Causton and Sons, Ltd., London, 1915, made and displayed to educate the public, whom the poster advises to "familiarise themselves with the appearance of British and German Airships and Aeroplanes, so that they may not be alarmed by British aircraft and may take shelter if German aircraft appear," (creased where folded, minor losses), in a black frame, overall dimensions 41 1/2 x 29 1/2 in.
Note: Jared Bowen writes: "History is fascinating to me, but never more so than when you have access to tangible materials like this sobering poster from World War II. It's at once a conversation piece and cautionary tale."
Provenance: The collection of Frederic and Jean Sharf.
