Upper Great Lakes Beaded "Octopus" Bag, third quarter 19th century, dark indigo blue stroud cloth bag, red cloth and smaller blue beads outline the entire edge front, with eight bifurcated tabs off the bottom, partially beaded on the front with multicolored abstract floral devices, complete with beaded cloth shoulder strap, (a number of woolen tassels missing), mounted in a Plexiglas box, lg. including strap 30 in.
Provenance: Private collection, Stowe, Vermont.
Most of the small white beading edging is gone, as is quite a lot of the silk fabric edging, some white beads remain on the tabs. A number of bead and wool tassels are missing.
