Carved Limestone Stone Head of a Man, late 19th century, the figure with exaggerated facial features on an integral square base, ht. 11 in.
Provenance: Found in Bloomington, Indiana; collection of Frank Maresca.
Literature: Illustrated in Roger Ricco and Frank Maresca, American Primitive (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1988), p. 86, fig. 113, and described as bearing a resemblance to African carvings from Sierra Leone.
