Martin Brothers Harvard-Yale Regatta Trophy, England, 1892, slightly cantered circular shape, the two handles with crossed oars, inscribed on the one side "Harvard-Yale Varsity Boat Race 1891" above a central cartouche with "C.K. Cummings" and school motifs surrounded by scrolled foliage, the reverse with "Harvard Crew 1891" to either side of a shield-shaped cartouche with list of the crew, all above "Rah-Rah," incised beneath the base "R.W. Martin & Brothers London & Southall," ht. 6 in.
Note: In the book The Martin Brothers Potters, by Malcolm Haslam, pp. 77 and 78, there is mention of a Dr. Gray of Harvard University, a leading collector of Martin wares, who probably arranged the order of the inscribed cups which were awarded to the winning eight in the Harvard-Yale Boat Race. C.K. Cummings is listed among the crew.
