18kt Gold, Onyx, and Diamond Ring, Barbara Anton, c. 1970s, set with an oval cabochon raised by pave-set diamond prongs over an onyx tablet, 15.7 dwt, lg. 1 1/4 in., size 6 1/4, signed.
Note: A Graduate Gemologist, Barbara Anton (April 3, 1926-May 20, 2007) took some engineering courses while attending Antioch College for journalism. In a 2005 interview she stated that while she preferred writing, "I guess the engineering background helped because I won 23 International Awards for Excellence in Jewelry Design." These include the Diamonds International Award and The Highest Award from The Cultured Pearl Associations of America and Japan. Anton studied jewelry design at the Museum of Modern Art and The Gemological Institute of America. As a hobby she enjoyed flower arranging - she was founder and past president of The Pocono Mountain Garden Club, and was granted accreditation to teach Japanese flower arrangement.
