Description:

John Cyril Harrison (American, 1898-1985)

Two Works: Blackrock Aflight at Sunset and Ducks Alighting on a Coastal Rocky Cliff
Both signed "JCHarrison" l.r.
Watercolor on paper, 21 x 29 1/2 in. (53.8 x 75.0 cm),framed.
Condition: Subtle rippling, not examined out of frames.

Provenance: Collection of Peter F. Packard, New York, until 1987, to the current owner by family descent.
Estimate $1,000-1,500

Although the frames were not opened during cataloging, the condition of each watercolor appears good.

Framed dimensions are 31 x 39 1/4 in.

The frame of "Blackrock Aflight at Sunset" was opened to check condition. The paper shows gentle rippling, so it is not laid down. The overall condition is good. However, the window mat is glued to the back mat, and the mat could not be opened without risk of damage to the work, because it could not be determined for certain if the glued under-surface impacted the outer edges of the front of the watercolor beneath the window opening. There is some gentle rippling also to the back of the mat and the u.r. corner of the window mat, but there is no evidence of water damage in either place. The mat is acidic which may have resulted in some mat burn to the outer edges of the watercolor. Because the works are in identical frames, we assume similar conditions exist for the second watercolor, "Ducks Alighting..."
