N.B. Nan Goldin creates intensely personal, spontaneous, sexual, and transgressive photographs of her friends, lovers, and family. After graduating from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University in 1977/1978, she moved to New York where she captured the city's vibrant post-Stonewall gay subculture, as well as the subculture of heavy drug use associated with the Bowery neighborhood. She began visiting Berlin in 1984 where she premiered her provocative and influential project The Ballad of Sexual Dependency in West Berlin's Arsenal Cinema.
