Ansel Adams was affiliated with f/64, an informal group of West Coast photographers dedicated to the belief that photography should emphasize its unique capabilities rather than emulating other artistic mediums. Taking the natural environment as their primary subject, the members used large-format view cameras to produce sharply detailed, high contrast photographs that celebrate both form and personal expression.
