[London: Imprinted in Fletestrete by Thomas Berthelet, printer to the kynges moste noble grace, 1544.] Octavo, title printed within woodcut compartment, text in black letter throughout; an English translation of Xenophon's Oeconomicus by Gentian Hervet, bound in full modern calf, 5 3/4 x 3 3/4 in.
Xenophon's Oeconomicus is considered one of the earliest works of household management and economics, and includes interesting treatments on topics such as relationships between men and women, city versus country life, and the ancient Athenian issues of slavery, religion, and education. Its revival in the Renaissance is documented by this translation.
