Maison Millet Ormolu-mounted Kingwood and Satinwood Parquetry Bureau, France, late 19th century, the curved superstructure surmounted by a putto with lyre above a clock, flanked by twin-light candelabra above six drawers, black leather writing surface, below three frieze drawers, overall trellis parquetry, cabriole legs with floral mounts, one signed Millet, legs ending in scrolled sabots, ht. 51 1/2, writing surface ht. 29 1/2, wd. 45, dp. 22 in.
Note: Founded by Theodore Millet in 1857, for the next half century, the firm crafted high quality decorative arts inspired by 18th century French designs. Their work received numerous international exhibition awards including the Gold Medal at the Exposition Universailles of 1889.
