N.B. Bertha May Cushing Child (1871-1933),mother of Julia Child's husband Paul Cushing Child, was a concert singer who died in Paris. Although extant biographies make no mention of her work as a bookbinder, the bindings are stamped with the name Bertha Child in blind, and were owned by her son.
