Although this sculpture was modeled in 1907, the bronze is dated 1911, which is the year it was cast. It is a rare example of the artist's Ashcan School sculpture.
There are some scattered minute specks, possibly paint, visible on the child. Also an irregular surface mark on the base at the back of the feet, which appears to be original to the cast rather than a scratch.
