Dr. Louis Auzoux Full Body Medical Teaching Model, France, c. 1847, papier-mâché anatomical model of a full figure, designed to be dismantled and reassembled, showing internal anatomy with labeled parts, veins and arteries in blue and red, with original paper-lined dovetailed shipping crate, ht. 34 in.
Provenance: Dutch collector to a private Massachusetts collection.
Note: Dr. Auzoux created these models due to the lack of corpses and/or religious beliefs at the time. His "secret" papier-mache mixture enabled him to create sturdy, solid models for students.
