Description:

Joshua Wilder Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer Tall Clock, Hingham, Massachusetts, c. 1815, with pierced fret above freestanding fluted columns, inlaid hood door, 12-in. painted roman numeral iron dial signed "Joshua Wilder/Hingham," diamond-pattern steel hands, raised gilt and floral-decorated spandrels, and a rocking ship in the arch, beaded-edge full-length waist door with bookmatched and contrasting veneer inlay, flanked by fluted quarter-columns, base with similar waist door inlay and flared French feet, eight-day time and hour strike movement with rear pierced plate and solid front plate mechanism, regulated by a brass-faced pendulum and two tin-cased weights, ht. with finial 90 in.

Note: Original Walter H. Durfee & Co. letter to a Mr. Everett, reading in part "Regarding the hall clock which you purchased from Geo. Lansing, 2nd, in the later part of January I would advise that I purchased this clock in Hingham, Mass. in 1917 and sold it to Willard I. Lansing, his father," accompanies the lot.
