Retouch includes an area of short lines and dots measuring 4 inches across overall located in the u.c. cloud, and a small dot (3/16 inch) in the sky c.l., There is a larger area stretching behind the trees in the center, which covers about 18 inches when measured across. These areas of retouch are not continuous, but include the backgrounds between the various tree trunks and branches. There is a small area in the l.l. corner (3 inches high along the lip of the frame) which may be retouch or varnish inconsistency. There does not appear to be retouch to the figure groups or the architecture.
Craquelure overall with cupping. Pattern of craquelure is round, suggesting that it resulted from impact at some time. Wax lined and stretched onto a new professional conservation stretcher. Page from a Christie's 1973 auction bulletin taped to the reverse.
