Description:
George I Britannia Standard Silver Tankard, London, 1715-16, maker's mark "B_" possibly for Richard Bayley, with scrolled thumbpiece and engraved coat of arms, ht. 7 in., approx. 24.3 troy oz.
Estimate $1,500-3,000
Good overall condition with light surface wear consistent with age and use. Silver surface at center of engraving appears slightly thinner (possible previous professional engraving removal, re-engraving) though silver surface is not pitted or marred and still quite strong, the engraving is also well done and shows decent age to surface. Lid sits well. Small amount of verdigris to thumbpiece joint.
