Note: Elkin incorporated her eye for 20th century design and architecture into her interior decorating business started in 1918 in California. She was the decorator of choice for the affluent in San Francisco in the 1930s, according to an Architectural Digest article from 2005. It is speculated that this chair design, which is documented in two interior commissions by Elkin, was inspired by her love of architecture and classic design.
