Pearl and Diamond Necklace and Bracelet, Wedderien, c. 1950s, a necklace composed of twenty-eight baroque freshwater pearls, spaced by rose motifs set with full-cut dimonds, and suspending a drop, in platinum and 18kt gold, bracelet en suite, lg. 15 3/4, 7 1/8 in., signed, boxed.
Provenance: A gift to Janet Huntington Brewster Murrow, writer, philanthropist, and radio broadcaster, from her husband Edward R. Murrow. Edward R. Murrow, one of journalism's great figures, was a pioneer of television news broadcasting. He came to prominence during World War II; during the Blitz, the opening line of his broadcasts "This is London" became iconic. In 1940, Murrow ended a broadcast with "Good night, and good luck," his signature catchphrase.
