Reynolds Beal (American, 1867-1951)
Leaving Key West. Signed and dated "Reynolds Beal 1941" l.l., titled in an inscription on the frame backing paper. Watercolor and charcoal on paper, 7 3/8 x 10 3/8 in., framed. Condition: Subtle rippling, minor toning, not examined out of frame.
Provenance: Purchased from Marine Arts Gallery, August 18, 1978 (copy of receipt accompanies the lot); to the estate of Richard L. Elia, Winchester, Massachusetts.
Estimate $200-400
Although the frame was not opened during cataloging, the work is framed so that the edges of the sheet are visible and the watercolor appears to be in good condition. The rippling suggests that the sheet is affixed to the back mat at occasional spots on the reverse of the watercolor.
The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Condition requests can be obtained via email (lot inquiry button) or by telephone to the appropriate gallery location (Boston/617.350.5400 or Marlborough/508.970.3000).
