Italian School, 17th Century

A Bishop Saint in Glory. Inscribed "64.)" in pencil l.l., inscribed "Daniele Crespi/1590-1630" in pencil on the reverse, and with collector's stamps (see below) on the reverse. Ink heightened with white on buff paper, 10 3/8 x 8 in., framed. Condition: Creasing, foxing, staining, sheet slightly irregularly trimmed.

N.B. Collector's stamps from Ludwig Pollak, PhD, (1868-1943) (Lugt, L.788b) and "GV," an unidentified mark (Lugt, L.1222a) thought to be Italian. There is a possible third stamp at the top of the reverse, but it is not legible. Although the drawing was once attributed to Daniele Crespi (Italian, 1590-1630),current scholarship does not support that attribution.
