George Washington Inaugural Button, c. 1789, non-dug brass button, stamped on the face "GW" and "LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT," with Saint Andrew's crosses inside the border, dia. 32 mm.
Provenance: Passed down through the family of Civil War officer and founder of Bath Iron Works, Thomas W. Hyde, a Brevet Major General at the end of the war, he received the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Antietam.
In very good condition with intact shank (slightly bent). Face is sharp and crisp.
