Louis W. Bowen (1914-2002) manufactured wall coverings for 40 years while operating an interior design firm for many clients. He also served as chair for the New York Winter Antiques Show for several years, and was a Board Member of East Side House Settlement, the show's beneficiary. Examples of his wallcoverings can be found in the collections of Historic New England, Cooper-Hewitt Museum, and Victoria & Albert Museum.

This work is closely related to Mural Miniatures, Paris - 1830, 1954–68, designed by Lanette Scheeline, luxograph print on paper, part of the collection of Cooper-Hewitt Museum. The composition of the wallpaper may have been inspired by the panoramic wallpaper Joseph Dufour manufactured, Les Monuments du Paris ('The Monuments of Paris') paper, designed by Jean Broc and produced in 1814. Dufour's panels can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum.
