A Brown Study
Signed and dated "GERTRUDE FISKE 1913" u.l., titled on a label from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts affixed to the stretcher, with a label from Wunderly Galleries, Pittsburgh, affixed to the backing board.
Oil on canvas, 36 1/2 x 30 1/4 in. (92.7 x 76.8 cm),framed.
Condition: Craquelure, varnish inconsistencies, possible retouch.

Exhibitions: 108th Annual Exhibition, The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, February 9-March 30, 1913, no. 233.
Estimate $6,000-8,000

Framed dimensions: 45 1/2 x 39 1/2 in. The frame is period to the work or nearly so.

There are minor spots of retouch at the lower edge, most likely done to repair frame abrasions.

Inscribed "Mellon" on the stretcher.

Provenance: Purchased at the J.W. Taylor Auction on July 25, 1975 by the current owner.
