Description:

Needlework Sampler, "Abigail Clark Cilley AE 11 A.D. 1829," probably New Hampshire, silk threads on a linen ground with alphabet panels over stitched signature, date, and verse "Let piety thy thoughts direct And trust that God will thee protect," the lower border with a house, flowers, a hillside with sheep, figures and birds in a tree, the top bordered with a geometric vine, the sides with grapevines, (toning, fading),18 1/2 x 17 1/2 in.

Note: A genealogy search revealed a record which states that a girl named Abigail C. Cilley was born May 1, 1818 in East Andover, New Hampshire. She married John M. Samborne, together they had nine children and resided in New Hampton, New Hampshire.
