Painted Silk and Needlework Picture Depicting "Liberty in the Form of the Goddess of Youth" after Edward Savage, worked by Jane Gerrish, Newburyport, Massachusetts, 1809, central woman dressed in flowing white and blue gown holding a liberty cap on a pole and a United States flag decorated with a spreadwing eagle, against a grassy background with flowers, trees, and blue sky, the reverse inscribed in ink "Worked by Jane Gerrish/aged 15 in 1809 A.D. at/Newburyport Mass dear Mother/of E.J. Tennent & E.G. Flanders. of Calif.," modern eglomise mat, in a molded frame, ht. 11 1/2, wd. 8 3/4 in. (sight).

Note: Jane Gerrish was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, October 15, 1794, to Mayo and Betsy Gerrish. She married Foster Smith on January 27, 1816, and died July 4, 1873.
