Qu'ran, Timbuktu, Mali, 18th Century. 136 loose leaves, quarto format, text in a single column, in a number of hands, in undecorated contemporary goatskin covers over boards, not attached to the textblock, as originally constructed, the text incomplete, fragmentary at the beginning and end, inscribed on laid paper, in a brown ink with red diacritical marks and occasional marginal decorations in red and brown ink, the paper ragged and chipped along the edges, delicate, some water staining, bio-predation, other damage, 8 3/4 x 6 1/2 in.
