James Jacques Joseph Tissot (French, 1836-1902)
Octobre, 1878, proof impression before the addition of the signature to the plate (Wentworth, 33). Unsigned. Etching and drypoint on laid paper, plate size 16 11/16 x 11 1/16 in. (42.2 x 28.1 cm),framed.
Condition: Little or no margin, partial printing of the same image to verso, hinged at upper corners with tape overtop of old brown paper hinges, even gentle toning.
Provenance: The estate of Carol J. Ferranti, New York.
N.B. Wentworth references a single "...trial proof of the finished plate, the lower portion lightly inked" and this would appear to be that proof.
