The Early Ploughman, alternatively titled The Morning Spread Upon the Mountains, 1861, probably the eighth or ninth state of nine (Lister, E9). Unsigned. Etching on laid paper with partial watermark, plate size 6 7/8 x 9 7/8 in. (17.4 x 25.0 cm),framed.
Condition: Deckled edges to two sides, foxing and staining to margins and verso, loss to corner of margin u.l., pencil annotations to lower edge and verso, glued to backing mat at two spots along upper edge (verso).
Provenance: The estate of Stanley A. Leavy, Massachusetts.
