Description:
William Cheesborou Ostrander (American, 1858-1934)
Desert Waste. Signed "WmCOstrander" in pencil l.r., titled l.l., with a copyright symbol in the plate l.l. Etching with hand-coloring, plate size 6 1/4 x 8 1/8 in., framed. Condition: Subtle rippling, not examined out of frame.
N.B. In an online description of the print at Allan McIntyre Fine Art, the artist's grandson is quoted explaining that the work likely was done on a trip through Arizona, c. 1928. With the idea of settling in California, Ostrander and his wife evidently drove through Arizona on their way west, where they remained for only a few years due to financial unrest of the Depression.
