Houdin Animated Conjuror Clock, France, c. 1840, ormolu and patinated bronze case with scrolling foliage with birds at the corners, a scalloped frieze between the midsection and the base, winged dragon feet flank a grotesque mask, silvered roman numeral dial with Breguet style hands, side of case stamped by founder L. Hennert, eight-day time and strike movement with silk thread suspension and a pendulum, the animation movement is mounted above with a magician standing at a table performing a "cup & ball" trick which is activated by the clock on the hour or manually by a lever, ht. 19 1/2 in.
