Signed, inscribed, and dated "Ph. A. Gaugain pinxt/Southampton 1828" on the reverse, with a Rowney & Forster canvas stencil on the reverse, and a label from Buchan & Son, Southampton, affixed to the back of the frame.
Oil on canvas, 30 x 25 in. (76.0 x 62.5 cm), in a period frame.
Condition: Lined, frame abrasions, craquelure, surface grime.
The new lining was fashioned with cut out areas to show the inscriptions and canvas stencil from Rowney & Forster, British Linen, on the reverse of the original canvas.
